Marbled Spinner Spider Card!

Today's card is double the fun!  It's a spinner card and it uses the marble technique!  Download the reference guide and view the video below. 

I thought the spider from Stampin' Up's Booglie Eyes stamp set would have been perfect but I didn't have it so I looked in the girls crafting stuff and found some pom poms and googly eyes...

what do you think of him?  I think he's kind of adorable...for a spider :-)

Cardstock

Basic Black  5 1/2" x 8 1/2"  (base)

Pumpkin Pie  3" x 5 1/4"

Whisper White   1 1/2" x 5"  

Basic Black and Pumpkin Pie scraps

Inks:  Black Reinker, Pumpkin Pie stamp pad

Stamps:  All Year Cheer III

Accessories:  Black & White Gingham ribbon

Tools:  1 ¼” Circle punch, 1 3/8” Circle punch, Word Window punch, Glue dots

Extras:  Stamp Container, 3 Marbles, Temporary Adhesive, Stampin’ Dimensionals, 2 Pennies, Black Pom Pom, Googly Eyes

 

 

 

 

 Here is a similar one with the colors reversed and uses silver reinker instead of black.

This would be a fun card to make for a halloween class (of course having a stamp set with a spider would make it much easier).

Christmas in August Stamping Class

I went to  Liz's 'Christmas in August' stamp class the other night.

WOW, what beautiful cards we made!!  9 in total!...I will show you the other 6 soon.  These 3 featured the Bella Rose designer paper and two new 'In Colors':   Kiwi Kiss and Pink Pirouette and lots and lots of Dazzling Diamonds...we all looked real pretty covered in glitter when we left :-)  

To make the card we glued strips of designer paper to some Pretty in Pink cardstock and added DD with a glue pen.   We then looped the ribbon, punched a hole in the cardstock and added a brad then adhered the whole thing to the front of the card.  Stamped and punched the words and added more DD to it and adhered with two glue.  My photo doesn't do it justice, the card is that much prettier in real life!

I am very excited to present Liz's new demonstator website, you can view it here .  It will keep you in touch with all her wonderful classes and clubs (her clubs start next week so sign up soon!). 

She is not only an amazing designer and teacher but very creative when it comes to signature lines (you'll have to check out her site to see :-)   We were telling her we had stamping emergencies and asking for sponges and such...it was a very fun night.  Thanks again Liz!

Fun Things For Kids To Do!

Summer is almost over and the kids will be going back to school soon...for some parents and kids that is a big whew!   Hopefully we will still have a few more months of warm weather (yes, I know that is a stretch but we can always hope). 

For those of you that need a few ideas of what the kids can do when they are bored, check out my 'things for kids to do' list.  I have added bits and pieces over the years so it's grown in size.

This balloon card and the picture of the craft the kids did on holidays reminded me of the list as balloons and leaf painting are on it (it's always interesting to me that you can spend a small fortune in toys and they spend all of a few minutes playing with them, but blow up a few cheap balloons and let them bat them around and make up their own games, they can spend a few hours :-)

An idea I have done in the past is to print out the list and cut each 'thing to do' with scissors and put them all in a jar. When the kids are bored, out comes the jar and they can pick their own 'thing to do' :-)

PS  I am definitely no longer a kid, but I think I am still one at heart as I enjoy doing many of the things just as much as my kids :-)

Check out the "We've Moved" Card Contest!!

Exciting news!!  John Sanpietro is having a "We've Moved' Card Contest!!  John (and his family) just moved into a new, larger house and is having a contest where the winner will receive one complimentary Boot Camp membership!!

I had so much fun making this card...my Stamp ma jig got a supreme workout using this stamp set though!  The cardstock is Sahara Sand, Chocolate Chip, Always Artichoke, Mellow Moss and Bashful Blue and Confetti White.  I ripped up a couple of strips of Mellow Moss and sponged Always Artichoke on the edges.  I sponged Bashful Blue ink on the Bashful Blue sky.  I then stamped everything else on Confetti White and watercolored and cut the pieces out and mounted them on with dimensionals.  I added some birds with a marker and stamped Congratulations with Versamark and embossed with White.

Post-it Note Holder

 

I just love this Post-it Note holder.  It's cute, it's quick to make and it's so me.

People that I have worked with for the past twenty years joke constantly with me about my post-it notes as my monitor and work station are absolutely plastered with them...they are my brain on paper, I couldn't live without them :-)

 

 

 

 

This would be a great item to demo at workstops, at a class or just to give someone as a small gift of appreciation or thanks.

Featured Guest Cardmaker!

Today's featured guest cardmaker is none other than my sister Pam.

She is one of those people that truly amazes me.  She is a stay at home mom who lives on an acreage, has 4 small kids, 4 not so small dogs, 2 horses, a cat and a husband so she has her hands full...yet she creates beautiful scrapbooks and also finds the time to create and send cards to us lucky ones in the family.

This was a card she made for one of my daughters a few years ago.  She says it's a super fast and easy one to make when you are short on time.  She cut out sections, added some doodles and a rub on for the words and then adhered cutouts to the card with pop dots.  Super cute!

Will be showcasing some of her scrapbook pages during a 'Let's get scrapping' week coming up soon.

Faux Sewing Watercolor Crayon Card

While we were on vacation a few weeks ago we happened to be camping near a place that I used to spend most of my summers at as a child.  My Grandma had a house on Mara Lake and my Aunts and Uncles had farms near her back then...we had no idea how blessed we were to spend our summers swimming and riding horses!

I have told my daughters many times about Grandma's beach so while we were there we drove in for the day and visited family and we were graciously allowed by Lyndon, the now owner of the house to visit the beach.

Tonight after making a 'Thank you' card for Lyndon I went to look at some pictures of the girls on the beach to add in the card and realized how similar one of the pictures was to the card I had made for her.  Kind of funny how that goes sometimes :-)

 

 

The card colors are Bashful Blue and Creamy Caramel and some designer paper. 

The video shows the faux sewing technique and also the use of Watercolor Wonder Crayons and yes, as usual the Stamp-a-ma-jig :-)

Three Minute Thursday - Embossed Butterfly

 

It's Thursday again!  I think doing these Three Minute Thursdays every week makes me realize just how quickly time passes by and also reminds me to take it all in and try to enjoy every minute of it.

Todays card is a simple yet elegant card (by Liz of course :-)  When I made this card in one of her classes some time ago I remember purchasing everything on the card (that happens quite often) as it's such a versatile card.  It works for a thank you card, a birthday card or even a sympathy card.

Cardstock used is Very Vanilla, Brushed Gold and Naturals Ivory.

Have you ever tried to remove part of your card because you put it on crooked or put it on the wrong place. 

Or maybe you want to take an old card and remove an area to place on a different piece of cardstock to change the saying or the color of the card.

'Wow Flowers' card

This is the second card we did at the make and take at Liz's open house using another new stamp set from the new catalogue called 'Wow Flowers' 

The colors are Not Quite Navy, Old Olive and another new 'In Color', Baja Breeze.  The Old Olive piece was put through the crimper before adhering to the card.  Three punches were used, the 1 1/4" to punch out the words, the 1 3/8" to punch the circle behind the words and the scallop punch for the piece behind the circle (a brad was added to the middle of the word circle).  The whisper white piece was stamped with a flower from the new set using the same colors as the card and then the cards was put together.  Quick and simple yet very cool looking!

New 'Inspired by Nature' stamp set and new 'In Color'!

I am so EXCITED!!  I finally picked up my copy of the new catalogue!  Liz had a new Stampin Up catalogue open house on the weekend which was just tons of fun...we saw her make and takes from Convention and heard stories of all the fun they had (a UPS truck actually pulled out on stage beside Stampin Up president Shelli Gardner and the UPS guys and helpers handed everyone out a free stamp set...like to thousands of women!!  way too cool)...we browsed through her swaps from convention, ate snacks, did a couple of awesome make and takes and of course picked up our new catalogue. 

Ha ha, getting my new catalogue always reminds me of Steve Martin in 'The Jerk' when he exclaimed 'The new phone book's here, the new phone book's here and then excitedly looks through it...I feel that way when I get my new catalogue...the new catalogue's here, the new catalogue's here!  I am weirdly excited and don't want to put it down:-)

So I really love the new Inspired By Nature stamp set we used in one of the make and takes and also the new In Color Pacific Point used in the same card so of course I had to purchase them both (much to my husband's chagrin :-)

Here is one of the cards we did as a make and take.  The colors are Whisper White and the new 'In Color' Pacific Point.  The tall grass stamp from the new set was stamped first with Pacific Point ink and then the flowers were stamped on top using versamark and then embossed with white embossing powder.  White taffeta ribbon was to finish the card and that is it, simple yet stunning!

 

What kind of card or gift item would you like to see a video make for?

Some of you have mentioned that you are newer to stamping and not sure what kinds of cards or techniques are out there to even know what kind of video to ask for. 

I will post a video that I used to have up on my website a few years ago as it shows some of the more unique and interesting types of cards such as a waterfall card, swing card, spinner card, etc.

3 year old makes a cool card!

I was looking through some old videos the other day and found one of my older daughter (she was 3 years old at the time) making a pretty cool card.  I helped her with the embossing and tying the ribbon but she did everything else! 

Kids just love to let their imaginations run wild and have fun in crafting!  I have two girls and they teach me every day just how creative you can be when you let yourself create with the mind of a child!   Try it, you might just find that you like what you come up with...maybe not, but it sure is fun to try :-)

Fossil Stone Technique

Wonder what else you can do with page protectors?  Try out the quick and easy Fossil Stone technique!  If you don't have page protectors I'll show you what you can use as a substitute that I'm sure you will have around the house. 

I am also using the Stamp-a-ma-jig again in this video...it's one of my favorite tools!
